Pico Ranch

Legendary is a word used to define unprecedented greatness, and Pico Ranch embodies that essence. This 1,605-acre ranch sits in a “pocket” of Shackelford County, producing bucks of mythical proportions. Widely known as Snake Den Road, this iconic area is recognized for management-minded landowners with large tracts of land capable of creating enormous animals wrapped up in the tallest of tales.

“As a local from the area, I am honored to represent Pico Ranch as the listing agent and to be a small part of the history of the land on Snake Den Road. I grew up as a boy in awe of the most extraordinary stories from this area, and I have witnessed monster whitetail run off into the woods every time I have traveled down that particular dirt road. Pico Ranch is a unique and rare tract of land, its lore reaches much further than the locals, as many hunters across Texas know of this legendary road.” – Boone Campbell, Broker.

Shackelford County, Texas

Pico Ranch lies in Shackelford County near the Stephens County line in the northern portion of Central Texas, with the community of Albany acting as the county seat. In the north part of the county, the historical Fort Griffin operated as a military outpost from 1867 to 1881. Shackelford County was formally organized in 1874 and named after Dr. Jack Shackelford, a Texas revolutionary war hero.

Within the county, the landscape is generally flat, with rolling hills and areas of rugged terrain. Water features are plentiful, with numerous creeks and rivers, such as Clear Fork of the Brazos River, Hubbard Creek, Foyle Creek, and Collins Creek, scattered throughout. Beef production and cultivation are currently the two major industries of the area. Shackelford County provides plenty of activities for its residents, including hunting, fishing, camping, and sightseeing. The county takes great pride in its heritage and exhibits that pride annually in June, when residents cooperate to produce a musical extravaganza called the Fort Griffin Fandangle, based upon life and times during the county’s early days.
